FAQs

What is a Copywriting?

Copywriting is the act of writing the words (i.e. ‘Copy’) for advertising, marketing, or otherwise promoting a business or organisation, and its products or services.

Note: Copywriting / Copyright – don’t confuse them, they are unrelated.  Copyright is concerned with patents and rights to intellectual property.

What is a Copywriter?

In practical terms, a professional copywriter crafts words to:

  • promote a brand
  • sell  products and services
  • raise an organisation’s profile
  • increase a company’s sales and/or profits

Wherever and whenever a business or organisation uses words – e.g. websites, brochures, print ads, newsletters, blogs, sales emails, broadcast ads, media releases, posters – every word and phrase is likely to have been written by a copywriter; and the ‘copy’ will be designed to inform, engage and persuade potential customers.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation – a process intended to maximise a website’s ranking on the various search engines (e.g. Google).  SEO is a combination of good website design and well written content making use of appropriate keywords.

What is SEO Copywriting?

SEO copywriting identifies keywords appropriate to the product or service being promoted and places them sensitively and naturally within the text (i.e. ‘Copy’) throughout the website.  This contributes to the website achieving its optimum ranking organically – without trying to fool the search engine.  SEO copywriting is specific to websites and differs from other copywriting (e.g. brochures, newspaper adverts, sales emails etc).
